David Mellor donates paediatric defibrillator equipment

David Mellor Family Jewellers has very generously donated funds to allow the Hurstbourne 5 to invest in paediatric defibrillator pads. This, in combination with the defibrillator kindly loaned by Hurstbourne Osteopathy, will ensure that the race is well equiped to deal with medical emergencies. For those that are unfamiliar with defibrillators, here are a few facts:

  • 12 people under the age of 35 die every week due to sudden cardiac arrest in the UK
  • 270 children die in the UK per year after suffering a Sudden Cardiac Arrest at school
  • When someone has a cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces their chances of survival by 7-10%
  • If a defibrillator is used and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase from 6% to 74%

Mayor to start 2016 Hurstbourne 5

Cllr Iris Andersen, Mayor of Test Valley, will be attending this year's Hurstbourne 5 and setting the runners on their way at 11am on Saturday 30th April.
